External Reference Files
CADD Standards • Version 1.0

External reference files or 'XREFs' are used to limit the amount of editing needed in implementing a change. Each floor plan sheet should contain a 'XREF' base plan of the entire building. Once the 'XREF' has been attached to a sheet file, do not move or rotate the drawing in the original 'XREF' file. Also maintain the BASE at 0,0,0 in the 'XREF file. To show portions of the building, use Paper Space view ports and clip the desired view. Reference the Paper Space section of this manual. With AutoCAD Release 14 you can now use the command XCLIP to show a portion of a block or XREF.
